Introduction to The Genocide
Our goal is to explore the nature of this 1970's genocide, and how the world is affected today. |
During the semester we have observed and studied many genocide that have taken place all around the world that occurred from many decades ago to as recently as twenty two years ago. This lead to my partner and I to observe and study the Cambodian Genocide that took place in the late 1970s. In this study we also wanted to observe that although they took place so long ago it still has an effect on the people and culture of Southeast Asia. In this observation we wanted to study how the Khmer Rouge Regime was able to take control over this country, and how this regime was able to carry out the violent and horrible crimes they committed during the period of time of their regime. Our overall goal of this study is to inform others how these tragic events took place, how they not only effected the people of this country, but also how it still effects the rest of the world today.
We plan on achieving this by showing what caused this genocide to take place as well as the events of the genocide especially first hand accounts, and also the outcomes after the genocide ended. We also want to explain the world’s view on these events mainly why it took so long for these crimes to be acknowledged as a genocide, and how has it has since been acknowledged as a genocide how it has been punished or not punished and a genocide. In our research we found answers to all of these by reading many academic articles from many universities and well as many praised books on the topics we studied in our research. These sources not only include an outside observation, but first hand events from survivors from these horrible events and their experience and how they survived. |
